He was born to Ikshvaku dynasty Kshatriya king Shuddhodhana in a place called Lumbini, Nepal in 563 BC. His mother’s name was Mahamaya. Gautama Buddha wanted to liberate the world from death, a little, from sorrow. So he abandoned his wife Yashodhara and son Rahul and went in search of the truth.

For 6 days he remained hungry and thirsty just sitting under the Peepal tree. After that he attained enlightenment. Now he had become Gautama Buddha by Siddhartha. It means “tree of knowledge”.

Diksha Bhoomi

Deekshabhoomi is located in Nagpur city of Maharashtra. It is a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site. At this place, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of India and the first Dalit leader, himself initiated Buddhism on 14 October 1956 on the day of Ashoka Vijayadashami. All Hindus support the Buddhist from the depth of their heart.


This pilgrimage site is in Kushinagar, 55 km from the district Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. This place is a center of attraction for Buddhist follower. Lord Gautama Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana in Kushinagar itself.
On his death, thousands of followers came in the support of the Buddhist. Gautama Buddha breathed his last near the Hiranyavati river in Kushinagar. Subhadra Gautama was the last monk to beggar the Buddha.


This tourist place is located 4 kilometers from Banaras railway station. There is a Buddhist school here. Gautama Buddha gave the first sermon at Sarnath. Every year a large number of Buddhist followers visit here. It was here that Gautam Buddha started the Dharma Chakra enforcement.
Here, the Chaukhandi Stupa, the Dhamek Stupa, the ancient temple of Lord Buddha, the Chaturbhuj Singh pillar of Ashoka are the major scenic things. This place was destroyed by Mohammad Gauri. Now here the broken parts of Dhamek Stupa are left.


The place is located in Nepal, but just 123 kilometers from Gorakhpur (India). It is easily accessible from Gorakhpur railway station. Prince Siddhartha (Gautama Buddha) was born in this place in 563 BC. The ancient viharas here are now destroyed. Only one pillar of Emperor Ashoka remains. The Nepal government has built two stupas here.
